Avantia Damberg
Biography
Avantia Damberg (Leeuwarden,1977) lives and works in Amsterdam and Curaçao, an island where here roots are and her parents live. Born and grew up in the north of Holland (Friesland) but her family returned to the Caribbean where she lived until she was 19. She came back to the Netherlands to study. Her first study was Marketing Management, which she graduated from, but her heart was not in it. In that same city she discovered the Design Acadamy and she knew then she wanted to create by profession. As she moved to Amsterdam she attended the art academy Gerrit Rietveld Academie and graduated in 2007. Damberg finds it hard to choose 1 discipline but desires through her drawings, photographs, video installations, animations and land-art installations to make public space art. Damberg curates an independent exhibition space part of international church Amsterdam50, called Artspace50, a meeting place for Christians and non-Christian artists. Recently, starting March 2011, she runs a pop-up gallery together with artist Blanchefleur Brienesse in Amsterdam-East. Damberg also makes hours working for Premsela, the institute for Dutch Design and Fashion and the Virtueel Museum Zuidas. Damberg loves to combine traveling with creating, as that works the best for her. During the journeys she shares her believes, experiences and humor thru her art.
